True Terpenes announced on October 19, 2026 that its vape ingredient toxicology program has completed an independent review by a board-certified toxicologist, according to a company press release distributed through PR Newswire.

According to the company, the reviewer evaluated the program's methodology and the standard operating procedures used to carry it out. True Terpenes describes the reviewer as holding a Ph.D. in pharmacology and as a Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology. The company did not name the reviewer in its announcement.

True Terpenes says it started the program in 2020. The company states that the program assesses each compound used in its vape formulations, reviews available toxicological data, and sets an acceptable daily inhalation exposure limit for each ingredient. It is led by Dr. Shawna Vreeke, according to the release.

The company says this methodology served as a foundation for ASTM D8587 and ASTM D8588, two consensus standards developed through ASTM International Committee D37 on Cannabis for assessing non-cannabinoid ingredients in cannabinoid vape products. The release notes that the standards themselves do not classify any ingredient or product as safe for inhalation.

Why it matters: A toxicological assessment reviews available scientific data on an ingredient to estimate exposure levels, and voluntary consensus standards such as those developed through ASTM International describe methods for carrying out such assessments. A review commissioned by the company of its own program is not a government approval and does not guarantee the safety of any product.

True Terpenes is a supplier to other cannabis brands. The full announcement, including statements from the company's chief executive, is available at the original release linked below.
